HookUp is the professional networking platform for the greater Arkness Falls metropolitan area. We connect professionals across industries, gravitational districts, and the occasional dimensional boundary. Our team is small, our ambition is not, and our Service Status page is a work in progress — which means there is plenty to do.

We are looking for people who care about building tools that professionals actually use, who are comfortable working on problems that do not have obvious solutions (or, in some cases, obvious causes), and who can maintain a sense of humor about infrastructure that occasionally disagrees with the laws of physics.

Open Positions

Temporal Infrastructure Engineer

Department: Platform Engineering Location: Vorreth HQ (in-office) Type: Full-time

You will be responsible for the systems that ensure HookUp's content, interactions, and communications occur in the correct order. This is more difficult than it sounds.

What you will do:

  • Maintain and improve the Timeline Sync Engine, which is responsible for ensuring that feed items, comments, and reactions are displayed in the sequence in which they were created, rather than the sequence in which they arrived
  • Investigate and resolve temporal routing anomalies in the messaging relay, which is currently experiencing an extended outage that we would like to stop experiencing
  • Develop monitoring and alerting systems for chronological consistency across the platform
  • Collaborate with the Municipal Temporal Office when platform-level drift exceeds acceptable variance (currently defined as 45 minutes per occurrence, per their guidelines, not ours)

What we are looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience in distributed systems, infrastructure engineering, or temporal compliance
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and the challenges of maintaining causal ordering across asynchronous systems
  • The ability to remain calm when timestamps contradict each other
  • A strong opinion about whether "eventual consistency" is a design pattern or a lifestyle

Professional Connection Specialist

Department: Product Location: Vorreth HQ or Grelmire (hybrid) Type: Full-time

You will own the product experience around HookUp's Link feature — the mechanism by which professionals establish connections on the platform. The Link system is currently undergoing infrastructure improvements (see our Service Status page), and we need someone who can define what "working" looks like and help us get there.

What you will do:

  • Define product requirements for Link request flows, mutual confirmation, and connection visibility
  • Partner with engineering to resolve the current dimensional layer misalignment affecting Link confirmation
  • Design and test connection recommendation algorithms that surface relevant professionals without being unsettling
  • Develop metrics for connection quality, not just connection quantity — because knowing 47,000 people is not the same as knowing 47,000 people

What we are looking for:

  • 3+ years in product management, preferably in social or professional platforms
  • Experience designing systems where two parties need to agree on something, which is harder than it sounds in any dimension
  • Comfort working on a feature that is temporarily non-functional with the expectation of making it functional
  • An understanding that "professional connection" means different things to different industries, species, and density classifications

Senior Content Integrity Analyst

Department: Content & Partnerships Location: Grelmire (in-office) Type: Full-time

HookUp's content — every company page, professional profile, article, and job listing — is pre-authored and editorially maintained. You will ensure that this content remains internally consistent, factually accurate within its own fictional framework, and free of contradictions that would undermine the platform's credibility.

What you will do:

  • Audit professional profiles for biographical consistency: career timelines that add up, endorsements from colleagues who actually worked at the same company, recommendations that reference real projects
  • Review company pages to ensure employee counts match the profiles that list that company as an employer
  • Flag and resolve cross-reference conflicts (e.g., a professional's profile says they left a company in Cycle 43, but the company's employee list still includes them)
  • Maintain the Content Integrity Index, an internal metric tracking the percentage of platform content that is provably self-consistent

What we are looking for:

  • 4+ years in editorial, content operations, or quality assurance
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a genuine discomfort with inconsistency
  • The ability to read a professional biography and immediately notice that the person claims to have graduated from an institution that was not founded until three years after their stated graduation date
  • Familiarity with document management systems, spreadsheets, and the quiet satisfaction of a perfectly cross-referenced dataset

Community Trust & Safety Moderator

Department: Community & Trust Location: Vorreth HQ (in-office) Type: Full-time

You will monitor and maintain the health of HookUp's community interactions — reactions, comments, follows, and the occasional strongly worded display name. You will enforce our Community Guidelines with fairness, consistency, and the understanding that most people are trying their best.

What you will do:

  • Review flagged content and user reports for violations of Community Guidelines
  • Develop and refine moderation policies as the platform's interactive features evolve
  • Maintain records of moderation actions and their outcomes for internal review
  • Collaborate with Legal on edge cases that fall outside existing policy frameworks, which happens more often than anyone predicted and less often than you might fear

What we are looking for:

  • 2+ years in community moderation, trust & safety, or content policy
  • Strong judgment and the ability to make fair decisions quickly, even when the situation is ambiguous
  • Excellent written communication — you will be drafting policy language, not just enforcing it
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to read a large number of comments without losing faith in the professional community

Dimensional Relay Technician

Department: Platform Engineering Location: Vorreth HQ (in-office, with occasional visits to the Vorreth Heights data center) Type: Full-time, Contract-to-Hire

You will support the physical and logical infrastructure that connects HookUp's application layer to its data storage, authentication, and delivery systems. This role involves both software configuration and hands-on work with the relay hardware housed in our Vorreth Heights data center.

What you will do:

  • Monitor relay node health and respond to alerts related to dimensional routing, latency spikes, and the occasional node that stops responding to queries and starts responding to questions nobody asked
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on relay hardware, including calibration checks, firmware updates, and the quarterly realignment procedure that our vendor insists is optional but that we have learned through experience is not
  • Document infrastructure incidents with the level of detail our Service Status page requires
  • Liaise with the Municipal Gravity Office regarding data center environmental stability

What we are looking for:

  • 3+ years in infrastructure operations, site reliability, or data center management
  • Experience with distributed systems and an understanding of what happens when parts of a distributed system disagree about where they are
  • Comfort working in environments with gravitational variance (the Vorreth Heights data center operates at 9.78, which is within municipal tolerance but noticeable if you are carrying equipment)
  • A valid Residential Stability Certification or willingness to obtain one within 90 days of hire

Our Culture

HookUp is a team of 34 people who believe that professional infrastructure matters. We work in an environment that values clarity over cleverness, shipping over theorizing, and asking "does this actually work?" over assuming it does.

We hold weekly all-hands meetings that last exactly 30 minutes because someone set a timer once and it stuck. We run retrospectives after every major feature launch and after every major incident, which means we run a lot of retrospectives. We write things down — decisions, rationale, open questions — because we have learned that institutional memory is not as reliable as institutional documentation.

We are not a startup. We are not a corporation. We are a team building a platform that professionals in this metro area use every day, and we take that responsibility seriously. We also take lunch seriously, which is why the Wednesday catering vote has been described by our VP of Community & Trust as "the most contentious recurring decision in the company."
