HookUp Privacy Policy

HookUp is operated as part of the Wittyverse, a network of fictional entertainment platforms. This privacy policy describes what information we collect when you visit or interact with HookUp, how we use that information, and the choices available to you. We keep this straightforward because we believe you should understand your data relationship with any platform you use.
What We Collect
Information You Provide
Email address. If you choose to create an account, we collect your email address. This is the only piece of personal information we ask for. HookUp uses passwordless authentication — we do not collect or store passwords.
Display name. If you create an account, you may set a display name that appears alongside your interactions on the platform (reactions, comments, follows). This is optional.
Profile photo. If you create an account, you may upload a profile photo. Uploaded images are stored in Firebase Storage and are visible to other visitors alongside your interactions.
Information Collected Automatically
Anonymous session identifier. When you first visit HookUp, Firebase Authentication creates an anonymous session. This session persists in your browser until you clear your browser data. If you later provide your email address, the anonymous session is upgraded to an identified account — no new account is created, and your prior interactions are preserved.
Interaction data. When you react to posts, comment on content, or follow companies and people on HookUp, those interactions are stored in our database (Cloud Firestore) and associated with your session or account. This data is necessary for the platform to function — it is what makes your reactions, comments, and follows appear on the site.
Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use HookUp in aggregate. GA4 collects standard analytics information including pages visited, time on site, referral source, device type, browser type, and approximate geographic region (country/city level, derived from IP address). GA4 does not receive your email address or HookUp account identifier.
Cookies and Local Storage
HookUp uses a limited number of cookies and browser storage mechanisms:

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or retargeting technology. HookUp does not serve ads.
How We Use Your Information
We use collected information for these purposes only:
- Platform functionality. Your email, display name, and interaction data power the features you use — your account, your reactions, your comments, your follows.
- Aggregate analytics. GA4 data tells us which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, and where traffic comes from. We use this to understand usage patterns and improve the platform. We do not build individual behavioral profiles.
- Communication. If you provide your email address, we may use it to send platform-related communications. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes.
Data Storage and Security
HookUp data is stored in Google Cloud infrastructure through Firebase services (Cloud Firestore for application data, Firebase Storage for uploaded images, Firebase Authentication for identity). These services are hosted in the United States and are subject to Google Cloud's security practices and certifications.
Data transmitted between your browser and our services is encrypted in transit using TLS. Data at rest in Firestore and Firebase Storage is encrypted using Google Cloud's default encryption.

HookUp integrates with the following third-party services that may process your data:

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with data brokers, advertisers, or any parties not listed above.
Your Choices
You can browse without an account. All content on HookUp is visible without signing in. You only need an account to interact (react, comment, follow).
You can request your data be deleted. To request deletion of your account and all associated data (email, display name, profile photo, interactions), email privacy@hookup.wittyverse.com with the email address associated with your account. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
You can clear your browser data. Clearing cookies and local storage for HookUp will remove your anonymous session, theme preference, and login wall dismissal state. If you have an account, you will need to sign in again.
You can opt out of analytics. Google provides a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites: the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Children's Privacy
HookUp is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@hookup.wittyverse.com and we will delete the information.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of HookUp after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
