HookUp Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "the browsing party") and HookUp Professional Network ("HookUp," "we," "us," or "the platform"). By accessing or using HookUp, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you accessed HookUp before reading these Terms, you agree retroactively, which we acknowledge creates a temporal compliance paradox. That paradox is yours to resolve.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must discontinue use of the platform immediately. Closing the browser tab constitutes discontinuation. Thinking about HookUp after closing the tab does not.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least thirteen (13) standard years of age to use HookUp. Temporal displacement, accelerated aging, retrograde maturation, and calendrical reclassification do not affect this requirement. Your age is measured from your original point of biological origin, in linear sequence, regardless of any intervening dimensional transit.

HookUp is available to individuals, entities, and legally recognized collectives operating within Dimension 7 jurisdictions. Users accessing HookUp from non-standard dimensional coordinates do so at their own risk and acknowledge that platform functionality, including but not limited to page rendering, feed chronology, and profile photo orientation, may behave unpredictably.

2. Account Registration

HookUp provides two tiers of access:

Anonymous Browsing. You may browse all content on HookUp without creating an account. An anonymous session identifier is assigned to your browser automatically upon your first visit. This identifier is not linked to any personal information and exists solely to maintain session continuity. It will persist until you clear your browser data, your browser clears itself, or your browser ceases to exist as a concept.

Registered Account. To interact with HookUp content (react, comment, follow), you must provide a valid email address. HookUp uses passwordless authentication. We do not collect or store passwords, security questions, childhood pet names, or maternal maiden designations. You are responsible for maintaining the security of the email account associated with your HookUp identity. If you believe your account has been accessed without authorization, contact us at legal@hookup.wittyverse.com. If you believe your account has been accessed by a version of yourself from an adjacent timeline, that is a personal matter.

3. Platform Description and Content

HookUp is a professional networking platform. All company profiles, professional profiles, articles, job listings, and feed content on HookUp are pre-authored. The professionals listed on HookUp are fictional. The companies are fictional. The job listings are fictional. The endorsements, recommendations, and career histories are fictional. The professional advice contained in articles should not be acted upon in any dimension.

You understand and acknowledge that:

  • HookUp does not facilitate actual employment, professional networking, or career advancement.
  • No professional relationship, contractual obligation, or employment offer is created by interacting with any content on the platform.
  • Following a company on HookUp does not constitute a job application, an expression of interest, or a binding letter of intent.
  • The platform's professional atmosphere is a creative work, not a professional service.

4. User Conduct

When using HookUp, you agree to:

  • Treat the platform and its fictional inhabitants with the same professional courtesy you would extend to non-fictional ones.
  • Refrain from posting content that is defamatory, threatening, obscene, or dimensionally destabilizing.
  • Not attempt to contact, solicit, or establish correspondence with any fictional professional listed on the platform through means outside the platform itself. They will not respond. They cannot.
  • Not use HookUp for any unlawful purpose, or any purpose that would be unlawful if the jurisdictions referenced on the platform were real, which they are not, but the principle stands.
  • Not use automated systems, bots, scrapers, or temporally recursive algorithms to access HookUp content at a rate that exceeds reasonable human browsing patterns.

5. User-Generated Content

HookUp permits limited user-generated content in the form of reactions, comments, and display name selection.

Reactions. By reacting to content on HookUp, you grant HookUp a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to display that reaction alongside the content to which it was applied. You may withdraw a reaction at any time by unreacting. The emotional sincerity of a reaction is between you and the content.

Comments. By posting a comment on HookUp, you grant HookUp a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to display, reproduce, and distribute that comment in connection with the content to which it was posted. You retain ownership of your comment. You are solely responsible for its content. Comments must not exceed five hundred (500) characters. Brevity is a professional virtue.

Display Name. You may select a display name for your account. Your display name must not impersonate any real person, any fictional HookUp professional, any government official of any dimension, or any entity that has filed a cease-and-desist with us or our affiliates. A current list of entities that have filed cease-and-desist orders is not available, as we have not received any, but we are prepared.

6. Professional Linking

HookUp's primary networking mechanism is the "Link." The act of establishing a professional Link with another user or fictional professional does not constitute a hyperlink, a temporal link, a dimensional link, a causal link, a chain link, or a missing link. HookUp is not responsible for confusion arising from the use of the word "Link" in contexts where multiple definitions apply simultaneously.

Link functionality is currently subject to intermittent service disruption. For the current operational status of Link infrastructure, consult the Service Status page. HookUp makes no warranty, express or implied, regarding the availability, reliability, temporal consistency, or dimensional accuracy of Link services. Attempting to establish a Link may result in a service notification rather than a connection. This is a known infrastructure condition, not a reflection of your professional desirability.

7. Messaging Services

HookUp offers professional messaging functionality.

This functionality is currently experiencing service disruption.

The disruption is ongoing.

For the estimated timeline of service restoration, which has been revised fourteen (14) times since the initial incident report and now reads "TBD (pending temporal relay recalibration)," consult the Service Status page.

HookUp disclaims all liability for professional opportunities, personal connections, career advancements, or meaningful human interactions that failed to occur as a result of messaging service unavailability. You acknowledge that the inability to send a message through HookUp does not constitute a breach of these Terms, a breach of professional etiquette, or a breach in the dimensional membrane, though we cannot rule out the third.

8. Job Listings and Applications

HookUp displays job listings from fictional companies. These listings describe fictional positions, fictional qualifications, and fictional compensation packages. Applying to a job listing on HookUp does not submit an application to any employer, real or imagined. The "Apply" button may produce a service notification regarding application routing infrastructure. This is by design.

You agree not to rely on any job listing, salary range, benefits description, or "day in the life" section on HookUp as the basis for career decisions, salary negotiations, resignation letters, or relocations — temporal, geographic, or dimensional.

9. Intellectual Property

All pre-authored content on HookUp, including but not limited to company profiles, professional profiles, articles, job listings, feed items, endorsements, recommendations, and gag notices, is the intellectual property of HookUp and the Wittyverse entertainment network. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, or temporally redistribute this content without prior written permission.

You may share links to HookUp pages on external platforms. You may screenshot HookUp content for personal, non-commercial use, including but not limited to: sending it to a friend, posting it on social media, or printing it and affixing it to a workplace bulletin board. If your screenshot generates more engagement than our original post, we reserve the right to be quietly resentful but will take no legal action.

The HookUp name, logo, and visual identity are trademarks of the Wittyverse entertainment network. Unauthorized use of these marks in connection with any product or service that is not HookUp is prohibited. Unauthorized use of these marks in connection with an actual professional networking service would be deeply confusing for everyone involved and is also prohibited.

10. Third-Party Services

HookUp integrates with third-party services as described in our Privacy Policy. These include Firebase (authentication and data storage), Google Analytics (aggregate usage data), and Netlify (hosting). Your use of HookUp is also subject to the terms of service of these providers.

HookUp is part of the Wittyverse, a network of interconnected fictional platforms. Links to other Wittyverse properties (ThresHold, Witty Weekly, and others as they become available) may appear on HookUp. Navigating to another Wittyverse property subjects you to that property's own terms of service. HookUp is not liable for any terms you agree to on other platforms, whether you read them or not, and statistically, you did not.

11. Disclaimers

HOOKUP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, HOOKUP DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
  • WARRANTIES THAT THE PLATFORM WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE FROM TEMPORAL ANOMALIES.
  • WARRANTIES THAT MESSAGING, LINKING, OR JOB APPLICATION SERVICES WILL FUNCTION AS DESCRIBED, PARTIALLY DESCRIBED, OR AT ALL.
  • WARRANTIES THAT PROFESSIONAL PROFILES REPRESENT ACTUAL CAREER TRAJECTORIES THAT ARE ACHIEVABLE IN ANY DIMENSION.
  • WARRANTIES THAT THE FEED WILL DISPLAY IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER, REVERSE CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER, OR ANY ORDER RECOGNIZABLE AS LINEAR.
  • WARRANTIES THAT CONTENT ACCESSED TODAY WILL REMAIN ACCESSIBLE TOMORROW, OR THAT "TOMORROW" WILL OCCUR ON SCHEDULE.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, HOOKUP AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, FICTIONAL PROFESSIONALS, AND THEIR RESPECTIVE ENDORSERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, TEMPORAL, DIMENSIONAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM.

This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability, including but not limited to: negligence, breach of contract, strict liability, temporal negligence, dimensional interference, and professional disappointment.

IN NO EVENT SHALL HOOKUP'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO HOOKUP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM. AS HOOKUP IS FREE TO USE, THIS AMOUNT IS ZERO (0) UNITS OF WHATEVER CURRENCY YOU WERE HOPING TO RECOVER.

13. Dispute Resolution

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered by the Interdimensional Commerce Tribunal, which convenes on the third Thursday of each month, assuming the third Thursday exists that month. In months where the third Thursday has been overwritten, rescheduled, or consolidated with an adjacent Tuesday, arbitration proceedings will be deferred to the next available Thursday that all parties agree is, in fact, a Thursday.

You agree to waive any right to a jury trial. You further agree to waive any right to a trial by combat, trial by ordeal, trial by prophecy, or trial by any mechanism not recognized by the Bureau of Dimensional Compliance.

Small claims court actions are exempt from this arbitration requirement, provided the small claims court in question operates in Euclidean geometry and does not require dimensional transit to attend.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Dimension 7 as administered by the Bureau of Dimensional Compliance and the Ministry of Information Standards. Where Dimension 7 law is silent on a matter, the customary commercial practices of the greater Arkness Falls metropolitan area shall apply. Where those practices are also silent, common sense shall prevail. Where common sense is unavailable, we will figure it out.

15. Termination

HookUp may terminate or suspend your access to the platform at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Grounds for termination include but are not limited to: violation of these Terms, abusive behavior toward fictional professionals, sustained attempts to send messages through a messaging system that is clearly not operational, and any conduct that HookUp determines, in its sole discretion, is detrimental to the platform or its community of real and fictional users.

Upon termination, your right to use HookUp ceases immediately. You may request deletion of your account data by emailing privacy@hookup.wittyverse.com. Termination does not affect any rights or obligations that accrued prior to the termination date, assuming the termination date occurred in the correct sequence.

16. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. If any provision is found to be invalid due to dimensional instability, it shall remain enforceable in whichever dimension it is still valid, and we will update these Terms to reflect the reduced jurisdictional coverage at our earliest convenience.

17. Amendments

HookUp reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of HookUp after modifications constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We will not notify you individually of changes, because we have your email address for authentication purposes, not for the purpose of sending you things you will not read.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Accessibility Statement, constitute the entire agreement between you and HookUp regarding your use of the platform. Any prior agreements, understandings, representations, or negotiations — whether written, oral, or communicated through a medium not yet recognized by the Bureau of Dimensional Compliance — are superseded by these Terms.
